Everyone deserves a second chance at finding digital love, right? Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye made headlines earlier this year when the pop star documented his Persona 5 playthrough and famously fumbled Tae Takemi, the goth doctor who is probably violating some medical code of ethics by dating a patient. However, now that the singer has started playing through more games in the RPG series, he’s found redemption in Persona 3 Reload.
Tesfaye is playing through the excellent Persona 3 remake, which modernizes the PS2 classic for current hardware. It looks great, plays great, and manages to recapture the emotional highs and lows of the journey its party of high schoolers takes through the endless, procedurally generated halls of Tarturus.
Persona 3 was the first game in the series to introduce the social sim–driven format most folks know Persona for, and as such, it has the option to let you date different characters as you progress through their social links. Tesfaye, not one to fumble a baddie twice, has been keeping fans updated on his playthrough on his Instagram alt @gene.hackerman, and posted a photo from the Mitsuru Kirijo romance. We call that a redemption arc around these parts.

Tesfaye may be a relatively new arrival into the Persona sphere, but Atlus took notice of his interest in the series and invited him to play Persona 4 Revival early, and to get a sneak peek at Persona 6 ahead of its official announcement during Summer Game Fest. That’s cool, but it still won’t bring Tae back, Abel.
