A Wonderful Gift, If You Wanted It
Google introduced their image search 25 years ago and it was amazing. Previously there was no way to search using an image and Google figured out a way to let you drag an image into their search bar and find out where that image came from. While we were all extremely impressed and lauded this new way to search the internet, scammers were rather put out. That lovely image of the item you were buying could be easily revealed to have been reused over and over again on multiple store fronts, and was obviously not a true representation of what you were about to buy.
Over the last two and half decades, AI has become a mandatory addition to anything and everything and now Google Image search also makes use of it. Soon the lovely spartan look of Google Image search will be gone, and instead the page will be filled with images that are “updated continuously based on your interests“. In other words you will get to see an assortment of images from your search history.
There is no possible way that could lead to embarrassing moments for anyone a bit careless about clearing their search history or using incognito mode.
In addition to a Google Image search page filled with images that are not the one you’re looking for, you can specify you would like AI generated images included in your results. Even better, if you do use that feature it means those continuously updated images from your search history will push actual images down below the AI ones you previously searched for.
Happy Birthday Google Images, we will miss you.
