It’s great when people are excited about their job! That appears to be the case for Ben Jordan, the actor behind Peter Parker’s face in Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games, who took to his socials to show off a thwip-tastic pose in the mo-cap studio. That’s all lovely, but as Pushsquare points out, probably not something the developers were hoping for, given Sony’s Insomniac has yet to announce it’s even working on a Spider-Man 3, let alone ready to release behind-the-scenes footage.
Insomniac is currently publicly focused on Marvel’s Wolverine, the long-awaited action-adventure due to arrive in September this year. Presumably Sony and Marvel would have preferred that everyone remain focused on that project before revealing the studio has already begun work on a Spider-Man 3, as inevitable as it surely always was. But Ben Jordan’s now-deleted post has rather given the game away.
You could argue that the actor is familiar enough to Insomniac that he might be in for any project, but given he’s stood with his hands in the classic Spidey web-spinning pose, there’s not a lot else on the table. You could argue that there very easily could be a Spider-Man cameo in Wolverine, which could make some sense of Insomniac were looking to create an overlapping universe. But also, facial mo-cap five months before release would seem pretty last-minute. It’s also worth noting that being the face of Spider-Man is Jordan’s only acting credit, his main job being a model.
The Wolverine game is due to feature a bunch of other characters like Mistique and Omega Red, but they’re focused on the X-Men universe and it seems it’d be smart to wait a while before crossing those streams. Which all leads to the perhaps not unsurprising, but certainly unannounced, likelihood of Insomniac already being well on their way with Spider-Man 3, as team members move over from Wolverine while that game is in its final stretch. But don’t expect anything soon—the gap between the first and second Spidey game was five years, and if that’s repeated this would be a game we won’t see before 2028, which in turn means we need to ask whether this would be a PS5 or PS6 game. (My bet is both.)
