God of War Laufey has been subject to a barrage of online hostility since it was announced last month, largely tied to the fact that it’s the first God of War game to not star the series’ reformed bad dad Kratos and instead features his late wife Faye fighting through the afterlife. The previous God of War games spent a lot of time establishing that Faye was a powerful warrior in her own right, so I’m personally stoked to see what she can do in her own game, but the people who hate to see a woman lead a video game will move the goalpost every time one takes the wheel of an established franchise. How is Deborah Ann Woll, the actor who voices and mo-caps Faye, taking it all? Pretty well, it seems.
Last weekend, Woll was making an appearance at Florida Supercon, meeting fans and signing autographs as one of the event’s featured guests. TikToker @quinnphobic attended the signing, and after giving Woll letters and art from fans, told the actor not to listen to all the misogyny online. It turns out, she’s mostly tuning it out already.
“Genuinely, I thought I was going to be much more affected by it, but one, I’m not on social media so that helps, and two, I don’t know, I feel totally unbothered because I just know it’s great,” Woll says. “Like, it’s okay if it’s just not your cup of tea, but in no universe is it bad.”
Good for you, queen. God of War Laufey is coming to PlayStation 5, and while we don’t have a definitive release date or window, Santa Monica Studio has confirmed it will launch with a physical disc, implying it will launch before PlayStation phases out discs in 2028.
