Last year, $1,000 for a new PC gaming handheld felt like an incredibly tough sell. It might be a bargain-bin price by the time 2026 is done. Also, Call of Duty makes another promise to tamp down on silly skins, and there probably won’t be any time for The Witcher 4 to get massive expansions. It’s Kotaku‘s Checkpoint roundup for May 29 where, unlike some tech billionaires, we are not planning to flee the country any time soon.
Meet the MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus, portable PC gaming’s latest big boy
Hell of a name, right? It’s the newest PC gaming handheld with beefy specs and an even beefier size. What makes this one so special is that its the first to use Intel’s new Arc G3 Extreme processor. Mmm, Arc G3 Extremmme.
Why are people excited about this? Well Intel getting into the PC gaming handheld chip market is supposed to provide some much needed competition to AMD and hopefully drive up the power and efficiency while keeping prices…uh, not necessarily down, but potentially...less high?

So what do we know about the newest MSI Claw? Not much. It’ll sport 32GB of dual-channel LPDDR5x memory, an eight-inch 1920 x 1200 touchscreen, and a body that’s been redesigned to hopefully feel more ergonomic. Also it comes in Void Purple. Mmm, Void Purple.
We’ll likely get more details out of the upcoming Computex 2026 show next week, like maybe an actual price? The current models start around $1,200 at the moment. It would be a nice surprise if this thing came in at under $1,500.
007 First Light sold 1.5 million copies in its first 24 hours
That’s good news for any AAA blockbuster maker, but especially one like IO Interactive, which is trying to put out top-quality games without breaking the bank. According to some analysts, the console-based game is also performing unusually well on PC.
New DLC is still coming to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
A new Techmarine class was added to the squad-based sci-fi shooter earlier this year, but it won’t be the only one the game gets. The game’s developers confirmed the new addition would arrive in 2027 in a recent community post. “A new Class is on the way, planned for the first half of 2027,” they wrote. “We can’t reveal which one just yet, but we can say it’s been highly requested by the community. As we did with the Techmarine, this new Class will receive its own special Champion Skin after its release.”
A tech CEO manages to do a commencement address and not get booed
“Now let me be clear: Technology itself does not decide what the future looks like. People do,” AMD chief Dr. Lisa Su told the 2026 graduating class at MIT. She continued, “AI cannot decide which problems are worth solving. It cannot make the hard judgment calls with imperfect information. It cannot take responsibility for the outcome. These are our responsibilities. And they matter more now than ever.” Conan O’Brien also had a very good commencement address this week.
The House of the Dragon Season 3 trailer is full of, well, dragons
Call of Duty promises more grounded skins, again
“Every aspect of Modern Warfare 4 is anchored in the game’s narrative,” Infinity Ward posted on X. “Every feature, every decision needs to feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is, and that includes cosmetics and collabs. We’re committed to keeping it grounded and transparent, and we want to hear from you on what you’d like to see in our game.”
Of course, Treyarch said something similar about Black Ops 7 and we still got Dave Chapelle from Half Baked.
Grand Theft Auto devs reveal a newly formed union
It’s called the Rockstar Game Workers Union (RGWU), a subsidiary of the wider Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), and they announced themselves with a video about their ongoing “fight for justice” for 31 fired Rockstar staff. The studio has claimed they were terminated over misconduct while workers maintain it was a union-busting effort.
Don’t expect any big Witcher 4 expansions
Just because The Witcher 3 keeps getting massive updates, that doesn’t mean its sequel will. “As you mentioned in the question, the plans are pretty ambitious,” CDPR joint CEO Michał Nowakowski said during the company’s latest earnings call when asked about the prospect. “Specifically, it’s to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. It would be difficult, to be very honest, for us to add an expansion to the upcoming trilogy. This is where we are here and now with this particular issue.”
