Not Your Great Grandfather’s Victrola
Audiophiles gotta audiophile, with $10,000/foot cables, magic rocks and a variety of other very specific ways to spend their money. The rest of us want interesting products that are more or less worth the money it takes to buy them. There are some niche products, like the BB-777 which are very tempting but might be a bit expensive but comes with a sense of nostalgia that makes the price worth it. Then there are the oddities which are affordable, functional and just down right strange.
The Victrola Journey Glow Suitcase Record Player is just under $100 and is exactly what it sounds like, a brand new product that bears a remarkable resemblance to a product that was found in the trenches more than 100 years ago and were popular back in the 1950s. This Victrola has a trick the old ones lacked though, it can handle Bluetooth inputs and outputs, in addition more traditional 3.5mm and RCA jacks. It also has 18 dynamic illumination modes so the built in RGBs can dance to your music too.
You might want to replace the cartridge it ships with, the ITNP-S1 stylus isn’t going to impressive those that know their record players. Then again, suitcase record players have never been known for their excellent audio reproductions. It would also have been nice of Victrola to properly embrace the suitcase form factor and attached a handle to make it easy to cart around.
