I built Daft Music because I was frustrated with the Apple Music experience on Mac. It always felt clunky and slow, so I set out to make something that actually feels good to use.
A few years ago I launched DaftCloud, a SoundCloud client for macOS. That project taught me a lot about building native music apps and handling large libraries efficiently. With Daft Music, I wanted to take that experience further and create something that truly replaces Apple Music on the Mac.
Daft Music is a full replacement for Apple Music on macOS. It’s designed to be fast, reliable, and focused on the listening experience. Most of the interface is built with SwiftUI, but some parts use AppKit to ensure great performance, especially when dealing with huge playlists.
The app is free to use, with a subscription required for full audio playback. There’s no analytics or tracking of any kind. Everything stays private on your device.
There’s a lot planned for the future, though I’m keeping the roadmap private for now. I want to keep improving the experience and listen to what users need most.
