However it is a rough look at the overall picture of the market and they have been tracking it for some time without changing their methodology. Their data shows Windows usage is on the decline this year, barring a few odd peaks that didn’t last. OSX is on the rise, in part thanks to the affordable Neo, as is Linux. There’s no indication of which flavours of Linux people are moving to but there is a very good chance it is in part a large number of gamers who have finally given up on Windows.
Microsoft keeps forcing AI into everything and then often remove it after their users express their antipathy towards these unwanted new features. Simultaneously we’ve seen vast improvements in the compatibility of Bazzite, SteamOS and the Proton compatibility layer which mean gamers now have a decent alternative. It seems many are starting to exercise that choice.
